On July 31, I will be competing in the San Francisco Marathon to raise money in the fight against cancer. Most of us know someone who has successfully battled the disease. We also know someone who has had their life taken by it.

I began training Aoril 9th to complete the full marathon (26.2 miles!!) on behalf of those we've lost to this disease.

My personal goal of $3,600 will help fund important cancer research studies and patient care programs at Roswell Park - one of the nation's top comprehensive cancer centers.

Approximately 1.37 million Americans will be newly diagnosed with cancer this year. Cancer affects everyone -- rich and poor, young and old. It is the leading cause of death from
disease in children ages 1 to 14.

There has been a revolution in cancer research in the past decade. For
the first time, researchers and physicians are beginning to understand
the causes of cancer and are making inroads into new methods of
prevention, diagnosis and treatment. With early detection, many
cancers are curable if treated promptly, properly and thouroughly when
first discovered.

Now, more than ever, Roswell Park Cancer Institute needs our
commitment in order to continue to expand its efforts. Please help
